Everton predicted XI v QPR: Kenny, Gbamin to start

Rafa Benitez could hand a rare start to Jonjoe Kenny as Everton take on Queens Park Rangers in the Carabao Cup later today (Tuesday).

The 24-year-old is not understood to be rated too highly by the Spaniard as in the absence of Seamus Coleman, he asked Ben Godfrey to play out of position rather than playing Kenny, who is a right-back by trade.

This could be a game where he makes a case to the new manager to give him some more minutes on the field of play.

Given Jordan Pickford’s injury, Asmir Begovic started against Aston Villa and is in line to play this game as well.

Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite could come into the backline to deputise for Michael Keane and Yerry Mina, given them a much needed rest.

Godfrey could start, but Benitez may opt to hand him a break and possibly bring him in on in the second half.

Lucas Digne, despite his heavy workload, is likely to start this one and could be brought off at half-time or at the hour mark should Benitez feel like his side are in control of the contest.

In midfield, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Tom Davies could be handed starts, but we’re expecting only the former to be named in the playing eleven along with Andre Gomes.

The duo of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan will be the ones making way for them.

Moving forward, Demarai Gray has started the game exceptionally well, but is in line for a rest and his absence could make way for the 20-year-old Anthony Gordon to be handed a rare start.

Summer signing Salomon Rondon will also start given Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s absence and Richarlison being a major injury doubt as well.
