Kevin Campbell shares verdict on Ellis Simms featuring for Everton v QPR

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has shared his verdict with Everton youngster Ellis Simms in contention to feature in the Carabao Cup clash against Queens Park Rangers.

Rafa Benitez has told EvertonTV that he has asked the attacker if he is ready to go, and he insisted he was ready to go.

Campbell made it no secret he would love to see Simms feature with Salomon Rondon needed at the weekend against Norwich.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I would.

“I’ve known him since he was a youngster at Man City, he’s worked his way up into Everton, he was on loan last season and done very well.

“This is the opportunity now because obviously what might happen is Rondon starts, and Simms is on the bench.

“They want to make sure Rondon is right for Saturday, god forbid he gets injured then you chuck in Simms who hasn’t got the experience.

“The priority for Rafa Benitez is playing Rondon on Saturday, and blood Simms tonight. He’s a big lad, quick and that will be a good move for him.”

Problem.

With Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently injured, losing Rondon as well this evening would be a huge blow.

The Premier League and securing European football is likely the priority this season, and we need to bounce back against Norwich after that humiliating defeat at Aston Villa.

Simms coming in for a chance would be perfect, and he would surely be buzzing to get that opportunity in front of Benitez.

After that injury over the summer, the urge to get out and impress will be bigger than ever and that could be a real weapon for the Toffees.
