Charlie Austin opens up on Lucas Digne spat in Everton League Cup defeat to QPR
QPR striker Charlie Austin has shared what happened between him and Everton star Lucas Digne after the pair were involved in a spat on Tuesday night.
The teams played out a 2-2 draw at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium but the home side emerged victorious on penalties to dump the Blues out of the League Cup.
Austin, 32, scored both of QPR’s goals but he was involved in what appeared to be a heated exchange with Digne.

Andy Goldstein pressed Austin about the incident on talkSPORT Drive [22/09/21]. He said: “I must talk to you about Lucas Digne. Last night, you and him, bit of cattywampus between the two of you wasn’t there, what was all that about?
Austin: “[It] Just happens, doesn’t it? Bit of banter.
“Just a bit of fun, he gave me a little bit.
“In the first half he was on about me fouling him and then he just turned around and said ‘how many caps you got?’

“I had a little giggle to myself, I didn’t mind it.
“In the second half the ball came over the top, it took about six or seven seconds to come down, he went to control it and shinned it out of play.
“I just laughed straight in his face, [as if to say] ‘you’re having one’.”
No laughing matter for Blues
Banter and ribbing is commonplace on football fields, but it was interesting to hear Austin open up on last night’s events and explain the incident in detail.
Digne was clearly upset by the aggressive nature of Austin, a centre-forward known for his physical play.
He attempted to belittle Austin by reminding him who the France international is, but Austin had the last laugh after he scored in the penalty shoot-out to help his side progress to the next round of the cup, after he had scored twice in normal time.
It was disappointment for Digne again last night as the Blues crashed out of the cup, just days after he scored an own-goal in a 3-0 loss at Aston Villa.
In other Everton news, Simon Jordan has claimed the Blues are ‘another Derby’ and will need Farhad Moshiri to bail them out.
