Kevin Campbell reacts as James Rodriguez closes in on Everton exit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton may see the James Rodriguez problem return later down the line.

Pipe Sierra recently reported that the Colombian will be set to make a decision imminently on his future.

A loan move to Qatari side Al-Rayyan is on the cards, and Campbell believes that it is a good move for all parties with Rodriguez simply a passenger in this Toffees system.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “The problem may come back.

“At least they are freeing up some of that money that you’re paying out, or some of it. His quality going one way is great, but it’s when you don’t have the ball, that’s when you carry a passenger.

“Everton cannot afford that. If he was doing so much going one way then you can legislate for him, but his injuries and loss of form, he’s a fantastic talent but for the Premier League, if you’re not doing devastating thing attacking then you’re a passenger.

“They cannot afford to keep him to take up a space, it’s a good move all round.”

Good riddance?

This saga has gone on for far too long this summer.

Benitez has been forced to start the season with Rodriguez simply being dragged along with no real chance of featuring, and he must be bored of talking about that situation.

With a decision to be made imminently and depending on the player, surely he would rather play than sit at Goodison Park doing nothing every week.

Time will tell what will happen next, and we could have a decision before the end of play on Wednesday evening.
