Kevin Campbell reacts to Everton injury blow for Jordan Pickford

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has been left disappointed with the major Everton injury blow with Jordan Pickford missing.

Asmir Begovic has started games against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers this week, shipping five goals already.

Campbell believes that taking Pickford out takes away his distribution which gets opposing teams on the backfoot in games.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Obviously Begovic is an experienced keeper.

“But, your main starters, your number one in Pickford, he was having a really good start to the season, and to lose him.

“His distribution is very good and puts teams on the back foot, I just think it’s a big blow. Everton are losing a lot of key starters and it isn’t good.”

Blow.

While losing Pickford is a major blow, having Begovic does ease that concern.

The experienced Bosnian may have shipped goals in his two outings in the past week, but he has also made some stunning saves for the Toffees.

Having said that, he shouldn’t have much to worry about against Norwich tomorrow, given their shocking start to the season.

Pickford’s distribution is more important against the better teams that may keep Everton under pressure, as one pass can turn them around and get his side on the front foot.

Rafa Benitez will be expecting his side to dominate at Goodison Park this weekend, and possession will be heavily in our favour.

It is down to Begovic to make the saves if he is called upon, and that is all that matters at this stage.
