Fabrizio Romano: Everton will look to sign one or two players in January

Everton will be looking to sign one of two players in the upcoming January window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Financial Fair Play rules were holding the Toffees back, but the sale of James Rodriguez has helped that dramatically in recent weeks.

Romano has now shared that doors have been opened in January, and Marcel Brands is ready to take action.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano shared what the Toffees will be planning for in the coming months.

“Yes,” he said.

“Rafa Benitez was confirming that saving James Rodriguez’ salary was important to have more opportunities to plan for January.

“Also to sign one or maybe two new players, so with James leaving for Everton now, they have the opportunity of thinking of something new – they will do it.”

Finally.

After months of counting the pennies and completing free transfers over the summer, Brands could finally be unleashed.

This isn’t to say that the deals over the summer weren’t a success, with the likes of Andros Townsend shining in the Premier League.

Benitez will know that some big-money deals will transform this squad and hopefully push a positive start into European football next season.

Right-back, midfield and out wide appear to be the areas that need strengthening, and hopefully, two or maybe more signings can help that.

Romano’s major update is obviously a major positive, and there will already be names on the shortlist who could potentially make the move to Merseyside in the next few months – fingers crossed.
