Michael Ball: Ben Godfrey deserves to be applauded
Michael Ball has been impressed with Ben Godfrey’s performances for Everton post his Covid-19 recovery.
The England international tested positive in the summer and due to his isolation period, he missed the first three league matches prior to the international break.
However, he started the next four in all competitions and has been deployed as a right-back for the majority of the time in Seamus Coleman’s absence.
Via his personal Twitter account, Ball, a former Toffees full-back said, “Top player – Little or no rest in the summer.
“He has to be applauded for not just wanting to play but to play straight after Covid in any position. I’m sure the fans know players who would’ve duck out.”
Top professional
Godfrey was undoubtedly Everton’s best centre-back under Carlo Ancelotti last season in the Premier League.
Even when he was played out of position at right-back and left-back he looked at home and hardly looked fazed anywhere on the pitch.
This season too, he’s proven that the virus can’t keep him out for too long and he’s bounced back strongly.

Rafa Benitez would have loved to have him back in the side and hopefully, he gets a run at games at centre-back as that’s where we think he should be playing more regularly.
Yerry Mina is arguably the second best defender at the club so he should be his partner. A back four suits this side perfectly and helps bring the best out of the attacking players.
Having a Godfrey-Mina partnership at the back could help the Toffees concede fewer goals further down the line this season.
