Andros Townsend in form of his life – 3 things we learned from Man Utd 1-1 Everton

Andros Townsend showed his composure in front of goal and scored an equaliser that helped Everton secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The hosts took the lead through Anthony Martial’s first-half goal, but were pegged back by the Toffees in the second half.

After defending the corner well, Rafa Benitez’s side hit the Manchester outfit on the counter and Townsend calmly slotted the ball home from a pass played by Abdoulaye Doucore.

Here are three things we learned from this game:

1. Townsend finally comes of age

There was very little excitement among the fanbase when the Toffees announced the signing of Townsend.

In his previous stints at Crystal Palace and Newcastle, the English attacker was seldom seen as a goal-scoring option and was highly inconsistent whenever he started.

However, since joining Everton, he has been extremely impressive and recently scored a goal against Burnley that Owen Hargreaves referred to as “world-class” on Premier League Productions.

Even against Man United, Townsend proved to be a constant thorn in their side and got his deserved goal.

He’s started the season strongly and we’re hoping that it continues.

2. Davies costs Toffees the win

Everton

Tom Davies had the chance to win the game for the Toffees as he found himself one-on-one with David de Gea in the dying stages.

Most expected him to pull the trigger and find the bottom-left corner, but opted against it.

Instead, he decided to square the ball to Yerry Mina who put the ball into the net and momentarily gave his side the lead.

However, the goal was ruled out for offside and Davies is the one to blame as he should not have played the pass in the first place.

3. Benitez continues to prove the doubters wrong

Everton

He did not arrive at the club as a popular appointment, but after a few months into the job, he’s managed to silence his critics.

Barring a few blips on the way, this Everton side has looked thoroughly competitive and he’s managing to get a tune out of this team after spending close to nothing this summer.

His stock only continues to be rising and it’s a fantastic time to be a Toffees fan.

The club are now third on the table and that would have been unthinkable at the start of the season.
