Everton Super Fans react to Salomon Rondon’s display in 1-1 draw v Manchester United

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Everton fans remain unconvinced by Salomon Rondon despite the Venezuelan playing the duration of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Rondon, 32, completed 90 minutes for a second successive game, but he was unable to notch his first Everton goal in what was his fifth appearance for the club.

The Venezuelan centre-forward has faced accusations of being unfit in recent weeks after a four-month absence from competitive football.

But after Andros Townsend struck a second-half equaliser to earn Everton a share of the spoils at Old Trafford, he may have expected to fly under the radar for a subdued performance against the Red Devils.

However, our panel of Super Fans still spotted concerning elements in his game.

Here’s what they had to say…

It was always unlikely that Rondon would become an instant hit at Everton.

The experienced forward has missed too much football over the last few months, and he needs time to reach full fitness and regain some confidence in front of goal.

His adaptation process has not been helped by the recent absences of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Rafa Benitez only has young attackers Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbins to call on behind Rondon, and thus the Spaniard has had to place faith in a man who served him so well at Newcastle.

The pressure has been cranked up on Rondon, and so far he has failed to deliver.

However, a player of his quality doesn’t just lose his talents overnight. Expect a rejuvenated Rondon after the international break.
