Gary Lineker mocks Manchester United after Everton draw 1-1

Gary Lineker has mocked Manchester United after Andros Townsend struck a second-half equaliser to help Everton to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Townsend, 30, was the Everton hero after a terrific counter-attack goal involving Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Writing via his personal Twitter profile, Lineker said: “Townsend ends United’s lead at the Stretford end (probably the other end but that doesn’t work so well). I’ll end there.”

They won’t like that

It didn’t take long for the Manchester United fans to get in the comments and start complaining.

They weren’t here for the ex-Everton striker’s attempt at a rather dry joke – but Blues won’t care.

It was a more than deserved point at Old Trafford for the visitors who were a match for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in every department.

The two sides now head into the international break level on points after seven games apiece.

Considering their contrasting transfer windows, where Manchester United signed Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane for combined fees fetching upwards of £100million, it’s a rather poor indictment of Solskajer’s managerial abilities.

However, it casts a favourable light on Benitez, who appears to have won round many of his early doubters.

More results like this, with some key players back fit, and Blues will be dreaming of Europe.

In other Everton news, Kevin Campbell suggests the Blues could offload this player in January after a major development this week.
