Patrick van Aanholt mocks Everton winger Andros Townsend for his celebration v Man Utd

Everton earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League clash on Saturday.

Anthony Martial scored for the Red Devils before halftime to put them ahead.

The Toffees didn’t panic and got the equaliser through Andros Townsend who finished a brilliant counter-attacking move in superb style.

It was a brilliant finish from Townsend and he celebrated the goal in some style. He copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siiii’ celebration in front of the Everton away fans.

Former Crystal Palace defender, Patrick van Aanholt, who played alongside Townsend at Selhurst Park, was following the game and mocked the Everton winger on Twitter for failing to execute the Ronaldo-esque celebration perfectly.

What a signing!

Jermain Jenas told BT Sport after the game that Townsend and Demarai Gray could become the signings of the summer after the duo made a lively start at their new club.

The 30-year-old, who joined in the summer transfer window on a free transfer, has been nothing short of exceptional.

He has scored five goals and provided three assists in all competitions so far, and has impressed everyone with his overall display.

Townsend said after the game that he wasn’t attempting to ridicule Ronaldo, adding the celebration was a mark of respect for the Portuguese who has influenced his career.

The Everton winger has hailed Ronaldo as his idol and admitted that he probably didn’t do justice to the celebration.

Everton have made a solid start to their Premier League campaign, and find themselves fourth in the Premier League table with 14 points.
