Everton winger Andros Townsend disagrees with Jamie O’Hara over Mohamed Salah
Everton winger Andros Townsend has rubbished suggestions that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is similar to Lionel Messi.
Appearing on talkSPORT [04/10/21], Townsend was pressed for his thoughts on the Egypt international after his goal against Manchester City on Sunday.
Laura Woods said: “We were listening to Jamie Carragher saying yesterday that Mo Salah was the best player in Europe. What do you think?”

Townsend replied: “He’s definitely up there, that’s for sure, but I don’t agree with Mr Clickbait [Jamie O’Hara] that he’s the closest thing we’ve got to Messi.
“I don’t agree with that.”
O’Hara: “Andros is coming for me this morning.”

Blues’ own left-footed genius
Townsend may not be on Salah’s level, but his numbers are not far off this season.
The Blues winger has scored five goals and supplied three assists since signing in the summer, with a tally of eight direct goal contributions just four fewer than one of the highest-paid players in England.
Townsend is unlikely to attract many Messi comparisons, but he is already proving to be a valuable asset under Rafa Benitez.
In the absence of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the 13-cap England international is really stepping up to the plate.
Given the wealth of quality young wingers the Three Lions have, a recall to the national team seems unlikely for Townsend.
But if he or Demarai Gray keep up their current numbers, surely they cannot be ignored.
