View: Everton could miss out on Nathan Patterson as Man Utd join race
Everton were interested in bringing Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson to Goodison Park in the summer, but they had their bids rejected.
The Toffees were unable to table an offer that could have forced the Premiership giants into parting ways with the Scotland international, 19, and they could end up regretting it.
According to 90min, Manchester United have registered interest in signing Patterson in January as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants stiff competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and that could be bad news for Everton.
Rafa Benitez’s side would have planned to return for the signature of the teenager during the winter or next summer, but the Red Devils hold all the trump cards should they firm up their interest with a bid.
Man Utd can likely offer Rangers and the player more money than Everton, and that hands them a massive advantage in the race.
Steven Gerrard’s side ideally would want the highest bidder if they ever consider selling Patterson, and the Toffees have no chance.
They have started the new campaign well, holding the Red Devils to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last weekend, but their rivals are still the bigger team, and Patterson would not hesitate to pick them if he had to choose only between both clubs.
They are playing regular Champions League football and are always in the discussion anytime the favourites for major silverware are mentioned.
There is also a certain Cristiano Ronaldo that could have a major say if the Rangers sensation is to make up his mind about leaving Ibrox in January.
Everton have a chance, but it is as slim as they come if they will be battling Man Utd for the services of one of Scottish football’s most talented players.
