Everton can now sign Porto winger Luis Diaz for £43million

Everton remain keen on Porto winger Luis Diaz and can now sign him for £43million, according to Correio da Manha.

A lot of Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old Colombian international attacking midfielder, and the Portuguese giants are very much now open to selling after refusing to lower their demands in the summer.

Porto asked suitors to part with £68million for the services of Diaz during the last transfer window, and that saw Everton cool their interest.

The club need to balance the books as they were unable to make major sales in the summer, and they need to do so when the next transfer window opens.

Diaz is their most valuable asset, but it remains to be seen whether they will be willing to cash in on him in January.

A swap deal that would have seen James Rodriguez move to Porto in exchange for Diaz was mooted in the summer, but Everton were not able to get that over the line due to the wages of the former Real Madrid ace.

Meeting the release clause of the forward was also impossible, but could the Toffees look to return with a bid anytime soon?

£43million is still a lot of money to splash on a player, but Diaz has been in fine form since emerging as the highest goalscorer at the Copa America in the summer.

He has six goals and an assist in eight league games in 2021-22, and Everton could do with such a quality finisher to boost their chances of qualifying for Europe.

A January move could work as Porto clearly need the funds, but letting go one of their best players mid-way through the campaign could be difficult.

Rafa Benitez could be keen to make some quality additions to his squad in the winter in order to finish the season well, but nothing is certain for now, and everyone has to wait to see whether the Blues’ links with Diaz will resurface then or wait till next summer.
