Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic blown away by Rafa Benitez

Asmir Begovic has waxed lyrical of Rafa Benitez after he joined Everton this summer.

The Spaniard, who was viewed as an unpopular appointment by a large section of the fanbase due to his Liverpool ties, has managed to silence his critics after his first few months in charge.

His Everton side find themselves fifth on the table and have put in impressive performances against the likes of Manchester United and Brighton who are also in the top six.

Discussing Benitez’s influence at the club, Begovic told Sky Sports, “It takes a while to get used to everything and the demands of the manager.

“But our manager has been no different. He’s obviously achieved so many things in the game. For me, it’s incredible to even learn from him and pick his brain on other things.

“When he speaks you definitely listen and he’s been great to us. Very open and honest to everyone and I think the group has really taken to that.”

Proving to be the right call

Farhad Moshiri and co. faced plenty of slack from the fans for their appointment of Benitez.

There were protests around Goodison Park and the supporters were extremely vocal about how they felt about this imminent development.

However, he’s shown how well he can do with close to nothing to spend this summer.

Most of his signings have done well thus far even though they were signed on free, bar Demarai Gray.

Andros Townsend appears to be a player reincarnated under Benitez and many who thought that Gray’s time in the Premier League was over have been proven wrong as well.

A top-eight finish would be considered a success but few will complain about where the club are at the moment.
