Kevin Campbell: Everton could seal Donny Van de Beek deal after messy transfer

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has mooted a potential January Everton transfer for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Marcel Brands spoke out this week and confirmed the Toffees interest in the summer, and didn’t rule out a move in the winter window.

Campbell believes it has been a “messy” year for Van de Beek, and he has questions to answer after failing to prove himself.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Well, definitely now.

“You look and he’s not even getting an opportunity. For me, it’s been a mess, it’s been a messy transfer for the player, he can’t even build up a head of steam.

“That’s the thing when you do get your opportunity you’ve got to perform, and not to say he’s a bad player, but it just hasn’t quite worked out.

“Everton have been looking, they know his qualities and maybe that’s something that could happen in January.”

This is the one deal and name that will be on everyone’s lips going into the January window after the last couple of months.

Everton were clearly hot on the case of Van de Beek, and for whatever reason, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned down that opportunity for his player.

Things haven’t exactly improved since the end of the August window, and the Dutch international looks more frustrated every single week.

Campbell is spot on that this has been a severely messy year, and the Toffees may need to be careful as they won’t be immediately getting the superstar that was at Ajax should the move be completed.
