Everton target Ainsley Maitland-Niles unlikely to sign Arsenal extension
Everton-linked Ainsley Maitland-Niles is not likely to sign a new deal at Arsenal unless he’s guaranteed playing time, according to The Athletic.
The 24-year-old was wanted by the Toffees this summer and even came close to joining the club, but saw the Gunners pull the plug on the transfer.
He ended up staying at Arsenal, but with the lack of game time and his contract expiring in 2023, he could be on his way out in the near future.

Good move for Everton?
The Toffees have looked for a right-back all summer and Maitland-Niles could have been the one to address their woes there.
While he’s not a right-back per se, being in midfield is his preferred role, he is still capable of putting in a shift anywhere.
Having such a utility player among your ranks is every manager’s dream and Rafa Benitez would certainly have helped him take his game to the next level.
In Seamus Coleman’s absence this term, Ben Godfrey has had to deputise at right-back and is certainly nowhere near as good as he is central.

While he hasn’t fared badly there, he is not as comfortable in that role as someone like Maitland-Niles would be.
As well as being versatile, the England international also offers Benitez another penalty-taking option.
Sport Bible have referred to his ability to take spot-kicks as “incredible”. Given his contractual situation, he wouldn’t cost the Toffees too much either and Marcel Brands must explore signing him in January.
