Kevin Campbell: Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be hungry for Everton return this month
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be “hungry” to return from injury after this break.
The England international has missed numerous games with his latest injury problem, with Salomon Rondon handed big chances by Rafa Benitez.
Campbell believes that Calvert-Lewin will have been desperate to put away the chances that Rondon spurned against Manchester United last week.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “What you wanted to do, you wanted to get into the break with a good result.
“There is still momentum, but you need to get your main guys fit and Salomon Rondon did ok, but he’s still searching for fitness and I’m sure Calvert-Lewin would have been hungry to put them away.”
Rondon clearly isn’t fit as Campbell mentions, and that is clear when an opportunity opens up in the final third.
The Venezuelan was taking far too long on the ball when an opening arrived, and that happened far too many times at Old Trafford.
Calvert-Lewin will have been watching and ruing his injury as he would have smashed them chances home if he was in the same position.
Hopefully, this two-week break will allow Benitez to get his best-attacking options back fully fit with Richarlison also another set to return against West Ham next week.
The Toffees have picked up some brilliant results in the absence of Calvert-Lewin, but it is certain that we would be in an even better position if he had been starting – bring it on.
