Lucas Digne returns to Everton after hamstring scare with France

Lucas Digne will reportedly return to Everton after a hamstring flare-up with France ahead of their Nations League clash v Belgium on Thursday.

According to Get Football News France, the left-back is set to miss their Nations League final against Spain on Sunday.

It also states that he will be sent back to Everton and the French are yet to make a decision as to whether or not they will be replacing him ahead of the final.

Big blow

We’re unsure as to how serious this is and maybe he could have been withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

Typically on international duty, when players don’t feel right, they tend to prefer recuperating at their clubs under specialised doctors and physios.

That said, Digne would have wanted to play in the semis as well as the final, so his withdrawal could be a sign of concern for Everton.

Hopefully, once he arrives at the club, the staff tend to it and ensure that it’s not too serious and that he’s ready for West Ham next week.

In his absence, Rafa Benitez does not have a like-for-like option to call upon, which could be devastating should Digne miss an extended spell of games.

Ben Godfrey may have to play out of position there or the Spaniard could even give Anthony Gordon a rare start should Digne not get fit in time.

This is not the first time the club have had problems at full-back, and this is an issue that potentially needs to be looked at further down the line.
