Everton must move for Rafael Leao in January
Everton were heavily interested in signing Rafael Leao during the summer transfer window, but the deal didn’t materialise in the end.
Back in June, Calciomercato reported that super-agent Jorge Mendes was attempting to pull off a swap deal involving Leao and James Rodriguez.
AC Milan paid £24 million to sign the talented forward from Lille back in 2019. Milan initially were open to selling him but later took him off the transfer market during the summer as they kept faith in his potential.

Everton also operated on a tight budget and they didn’t show enough intent in the end. However, after an impressive start to the season, the Toffees must show ambition in the winter market, and signing Leao should be on top of their wish list.
The 22-year-old dazzled during Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Qatar, where Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the ninth time in seven appearances for his country.
Leao provided a brilliant assist and showed great skills with the ball on his feet during the game.
January move
Benitez is expected to be given transfer funds to bolster his squad, and the Spaniard should look to sign Leao.
He is a fantastic young talent and could prove to be a top-class player in the future, provided he finds consistency in his game.
Leao is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and has shown glimpses of his potential at times.
This season, he seems to be on fire. He has scored four goals in all competitions so far and looks to be in fantastic form.
Benitez loves to work with versatile players who are skilful and yet willing to adapt to situations. In theory, he should fit in nicely at Everton.
He has a contract at the club until 2024, but Milan could let him go if the offer is right. Leao would be an exciting signing for the Toffees, and they must make a formal approach at least in January to test Milan’s resolve.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could face problems in their pursuit of Donny van de Beek.
