Everton Super Fans react as Fenerbahce reportedly in hot pursuit of Jean-Philippe Gbamin
This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.
Everton supporters have delivered their verdict on whether Jean-Philippe Gbamin should be sold in the January transfer window.
Turkish news outlet Sabah reported on Tuesday [12/10/21] that the Ivory Coast international is “first on the list” of Fenerbahce manager Vitor Pereira with the club’s scouts taking a look at him.
Gbamin joined Everton from German outfit Mainz in a £25million deal two years ago but to date, the 26-year-old has made just four appearances for the Blues with injuries hampering his career at Goodison Park.
We asked our panel of Everton Super Fans for their reaction to Sabah’s report.
Here’s what they had to say…
That’s the only way to summarise Gbamin’s time on Merseyside. It has been an unmitigated disaster.
Big things were expected of the 11-cap international after an impressive three-year spell at Mainz where he racked up 86 Bundesliga appearances.
But he has played just four times for Everton as injuries have hit him hard.
There’s surely a very good player still there but can the Blues afford to keep waiting? Football moves fast and Gbamin is facing a tough task to get any game time in midfield.
Alland and Abdoulaye Doucoure are currently starring in the Everton engine room and thus Gbamin’s only chances, if he stays fit, appear to be in the League Cup.
Therefore, at the very least, he needs a loan move in January.
