Gary Neville: Benitez will use Everton job as stepping stone

Gary Neville believes that Rafa Benitez will use the Everton job as a stepping stone for bigger things in the future.

However, he does not see the Spaniard leaving right away for the Newcastle role after the Public Investment Fund completed their takeover recently.

According to The Telegraph, Benitez is the favourite of the new owners, but the former Manchester United captain does not see him leaving Goodison Park.

He said on The Overlap, “My view is he might use the Everton job as a stepping stone and go somewhere else. But I don’t think he’ll leave after three months.”

Benitez stays

The man has addressed his future in the past few days and has been committal to Everton.

He’s not been in the habit of leaving clubs midway through his contracts, more so ones he’s joined only a few months ago.

Despite having so little to spend in the summer, he has still done a very good job thus far.

Now, with the Newcastle snub, he will certainly have had conversations with the board to allow him to spend more money in the January window and next summer to strengthen the squad.

We can see the kind of philosophy he’s trying to impart here at Goodison Park and hopefully, quality additions are not too far away.
