Alan Shearer: Everton wasted £600m on transfers
Alan Shearer claims that Everton wasted close to £600million over the past few years on needless transfers.
Newcastle have recently been purchased by the Public Investment Fund, and now have the richest owners in the Premier League.
However, Shearer believes that spending millions on transfers is not a guarantee of success, citing Everton as an example.

He said on Premier League Productions ahead of the West Ham clash on Sunday, “Everton are no better off now than they were a few years ago. Look at the money they wasted, spent roundabout £600million.
“We all know what Everton expect. That’s why recruitment off the pitch for Newcastle is just as important as on it.”
Spot on
Everton have been a mess in terms of recruitment over the past few years and barring last summer there have been plenty of questionable buys.
Marcel Brands taking over at the helm has done little to change the way the club have operated in the market, which is a shame.

Most of last summer’s acquisitions came because of the Carlo Ancelotti pull and none were unearthed gems that Brands managed to sign on the cheap.
It’s due to throwing money at sub-par players why Everton have found themselves on the wrong side of the FFP regulations.
Ancelotti may have left without feeling the repercussions, but Rafa Benitez is certainly the one affected the most by it.
The Spaniard had close to nothing to spend this summer, but despite whatever limited funds he had, he’s still managed to make this side look better than it was last season.
