Dominic Calvert-Lewin top of Arsenal summer shortlist

Everton attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the number one strike target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, according to Football London.

The super rich London giants are reportedly keen on a striker next summer and the 24-year-old tops their shortlist.

Arsenal are likely to lose a number of players at the end of the season and sporting director Edu has been tasked to bring in a quality number nine.

Will he leave?

Arsenal may not be at their best in terms of their league position, but they’ve still got plenty of cash in the bank to shell out on transfer targets.

They were one of Europe’s biggest spenders and even though their acquisitions were far from impressive, it sends a signal that they’re capable of shelling out top dollar for their targets.

Calvert-Lewin, who has been labelled as “excellent” by Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith, has shown little desire to leave Goodison Park, but things could be very different next summer.

If Everton’s FFP debacle continues, it will mean that they will not have too much in the bank to strengthen the squad.

That would mean that the team will not be at the level to challenge for the top six and another year without European football could be the final nail in the coffin for the England international.

At his age, it’s hard to tell him not to take the step up and if Arsenal are to finish in the top six, he may be tempted to jump ship.
