Gary Neville responds to Everton-Rafa Benitez question in live Instagram video
Gary Neville gave short shrift to an Instagram live question over Everton, Rafa Benitez and Jamie Carragher on Sunday morning.
The ex-Manchester United defender held a half-hour discussion via his personal Instagram profile where he invited his followers to ask questions and raise interesting topics.
Early into the broadcast, the Sky Sports pundit was asked for the thoughts of his colleague, Jamie Carragher, on Everton and Benitez.
The Instagram user asked, as relayed by Neville: “Thoughts on Everton? Carra secretly gutted Benitez is there?”
“Not sure,” Neville abruptly answered.
Solid start
Carragher may not be showing too much sadness on the outside at this current juncture, but if Everton can sustain their current run of form throughout the season, the ex-Liverpool defender is bound to feel slightly aggrieved.
Benitez is considered something of a legend at Anfield after winning the Champions League and FA Cup with the Reds, but he is starting to win over the doubters at Goodison Park who were unhappy with his summer arrival as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
If Everton can earn a European spot this season, something they are currently on track to achieve, then Benitez’s reputation among the Blues faithful will soar, and thus his popularity with Liverpool supporters may dampen.
Indeed, Everton may even be challenging the likes of Manchester United for a position in the Premier League table given their current form, and then Neville really will have to give proper credence to them.
A win against West Ham on Sunday afternoon will see the Blues leapfrog the Red Devils and soar to fourth place, level on points with Manchester City.
