Iwobi disappoints, Digne shines – Everton player ratings v West Ham

Everton suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.

After having seeing plenty of the ball in the game, the Hammers deservedly took the lead in the second half via an Angelo Ogbonna goal.

Despite a late flurry, Everton failed to score the decisive goal that would get them back on level terms.

Here’s how Goodison News rated the Everton players on Sunday afternoon:

Jordan Pickford – 6

A routine afternoon for the Englishman. Was called into action to make a few saves and was decent with the ball at his feet. Shouldn’t be blamed for letting the ball into the back of the net.

Seamus Coleman – 6

Much like Pickford, there wasn’t much to fault about his performance. He didn’t do as much as he would’ve wanted to in the final third, but a decent game on his return to action.

Ben Godfrey – 7

The England international won all of his attempted ground duels and did well to deal with Michail Antonio who struggled to get past the Toffees centre-back.

Michael Keane – 4

Another player who disappointed was Keane. He was all over the place in the first half and slowly managed to find his feet in the second. Yerry Mina is very likely to replace him for the next game.

Lucas Digne – 8

Proved to be a reliable outlet going forward for the Toffees and did his best to try and work something for this side. Alex Iwobi was close to non-existent down the left, so Digne was left with most of the work to do.

Andros Townsend – 6.5

Not the worst of games in an Everton jersey for Townsend, but certainly not the best. There were moments where he looked like making the difference but just fell short of making a telling impact.

Allan – 5

Was a tad erratic with his passes and failed to control the midfield like he normally does. A rare poor performance from the Brazilian.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6

Was the better of the two midfielders, but he’s put in better performances for the Toffees. The Hammers exploited the two-man midfield and one can’t entirely fault Doucoure for that.

Everton

Alex Iwobi – 2

The 25-year-old was the worst player on the pitch for the Toffees. Signed in the Marcel Brands era, Iwobi has proven to be one of the worst value for money buys for him and did very little to justify his start. He also missed a very good chance in the first half where he failed to show his composure.

Demarai Gray – 6

Starting in the second striker position, Gray drifted all over the pitch to get involved. He registered touches on both flanks and around the penalty area. Unfortunately, he failed to be as influential as Benitez would’ve liked him to be.

Salomon Rondon – 4

Not the kind of performance you’d expect from a number nine and he never looked like finding the back of the net. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were missed dearly.

Anthony Gordon – 5
