Jim Beglin: Michael Keane been sloppy for Everton

Jim Beglin has slammed Michael Keane for his slow start in Everton versus West Ham at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The English defender started this contest as Yerry Mina wasn’t back in time to train properly, and Rafa Benitez opted to go with Keane alongside Ben Godfrey.

While it did not cost him dearly so far, Keane’s performance through the first half has been far from impressive.

Beglin, a BT Sport pundit, said on the Premier League world feed, “We saw Michael Keane being sloppy earlier. Hasn’t started this one too well. West Ham have been all over him.”

Needs to buck up

Keane may have scored a goal early on in the season, but that gives him only a few bonus points.

Defensively, he’s been all over the place time and again for the Toffees, and even today he’s struggled to keep up with Michail Antonio’s movement and physicality.

Aerially too, Keane is not one of the best and we expect him to be dropped for Yerry Mina for next week.

Everton

That said, hopefully, Benitez has a word with at half-time as his performance today needs plenty of improvement.

Everton cannot afford to lose out on the opportunity of closing the gap on the top four and nothing less than a draw should be acceptable.

The Hammers have been the dominant side thus far, but things can change very quickly in football.
