Dan Meis: Everton meeting nearly did not happen
Bramley-Moore Dock architect Dan Meis says he was close to sabotaging his plans of building the new stadium for Everton.
The American was scheduled to fly in from the United States to meet then Everton chief executive officer Robert Elstone in Liverpool.
However, after missing his train from London, Meis feared for the worst and was having second thoughts of whether he should have gone ahead with the meeting.

On BBC’s In The Studio, Meis said, “I was sceptical as to why Everton would take a meeting with us because I thought they’re not going to hire an American architect.
“I arrived in London and missed my train to Liverpool. Then I took a second train which stopped halfway. All this while Robert Elstone was waiting for me and I thought this was going to be a disaster.
“However, we went ahead with the meeting and when I heard him talk about the club I was mesmerised. I was this close to turning back and flying home, but thankfully I did not.”
Fantastic
While Goodison Park is a fantastic stadium and generates an incredible atmosphere on matchdays, there’s no denying that it falls short compared to the modern stadiums.
Having an architect like Meis, we’re sure that whatever he and his team build is going to look magnificent, maybe even better than the initial designs suggest.
The location is already eye-catching and to imagine that the Toffees will regularly be playing there, is unthinkable, at the moment.

At the start of this month, the club hit a milestone in the construction of a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Everton announced that they had begun infilling the dock with large amounts of sand in preparation to lay the foundations of the new pitch.
We’re delighted that Meis went ahead with the meeting despite being late and that Elstone gave him the opportunity to prove his worth.
The new stadium is going to be a thing of beauty and we cannot wait to see it built.
