Everton will not be affected by temporary Premier League rule change

Everton will not be affected by the temporary rule change that prevents commercial deals from being struck with club owners, according to Sky Sports.

On Monday, the Toffees and 17 other Premier League clubs voted in favour of this change after concerns were raised that Newcastle’s new owners would sign lucrative deals with Saudi state-owned companies.

Manchester City chose to abstain from voting while the Toons voted against new rules coming into play.

The current FFP rules allow clubs to make maximum losses of £105million over a rolling three-year period and signing artificially inflated commercial deals could help teams to circumnavigate that figure.

Right move?

Newcastle are already at a massive advantage in comparison to the other Premier League clubs.

The wealth of their owners is far more staggering than any other team in the top flight.

The possibility of them adding to their funds by signing new deals is unthinkable and it’s good to see the Premier League intervening and giving the other clubs a voice in the matter.

As the new deals will apply retrospectively, Everton’s current deals will not be affected.

The club will not be able to sign new ones that have links to the owners, but what have been signed in the past will continue to remain in place.

Hopefully, the league hold up to these votes and take whatever steps they must to ensure that such deals cannot be signed in the future.
