Everton may need to stump up £10m to sign Nathan Patterson from Rangers

Everton may have to pay £10million in order to prise Nathan Patterson away from Rangers, according to Barry Anderson.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, the Edinburgh News journalist reported that Everton’s interest in Patterson, 19, “isn’t going away”.

The Scottish Daily Mail [print edition, page 80, October 20] has reported that Everton are readying a fresh swoop to sign Patterson in January as they seek a long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman.

Is Patterson ready?

If you speak to anyone who supports Rangers, they will wax lyrical about Patterson all day long to you.

However, when you’re an Evertonian who might only have a quick glance at the Scottish Premiership every now and then, you’ll notice that the 19-year-old right-back is barely getting a game for Steven Gerrard.

This season, Patterson has played just four times in all competitions and two of those appearances have been in the Scottish League Cup.

He’s started to make his mark for Scotland, at least, and has played five times for Steve Clarke’s side since his senior international in June.

In the last international break, he was dubbed “excellent” by Ally McCoist after assisting Scotland’s late winner against the Faroe Islands.

Patterson’s strong in defence and going forward and due to the fact he’s 19, he could be perfect to shadow Coleman and learn from one of the greatest right-backs this club has seen.

Patterson may not be ready for our starting line-up right now because he’s not even ready for the one at Rangers.

But in a year or two, he could be a star for the Blues and that £10million could be seen as a real bargain.

In other Everton news, Jamie Carragher blasted a “ridiculous” situation surrounding this Goodison star.
