Keith Hackett: Richarlison lucky not see red for Everton v Watford
We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...
Keith Hackett has insisted that Everton forward Richarlison was lucky not to be sent off in the 5-2 defeat against Watford.
The Brazilian wasn’t booked for going into the crowd for his celebration after scoring but was cautioned 10 minutes later.
Hackett was certain that the celebration deserved a caution, meaning Richarlisn would eventually have had two yellows, and a red.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Hackett said, “Wow.
“That’s a yellow card. The referee failed to do his responsibility on that one. You don’t want to spoil the enjoyment of a player scoring a goal, but there is a responsibility of a player to stay on the pitch.
“On this occasion, he’s gone towards the stand – for me, that’s a yellow card offence.”

Lucky?
This would have been the last thing that Rafa Benitez would have needed given the current state of the squad.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out for the considerable future, and Salomon Rondon proved once again he clearly isn’t good enough.
Richarlison would have been pumped after being placed on the bench against his old side, but then to score, that would have gone up another level.
The Brazilian isn’t one to keep his feelings locked up, and at times, that can get him into trouble with the officials.
It looks as though he could have got away with one here.
