Michael Owen predicts result of Everton vs Wolves

Everton were humbled 5-2 by Watford at Goodison Park last weekend and they will be eager to make amends when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

The Toffees face an uphill task in their bid to get a result at the Molineux Stadium, but Rafa Benitez knows a loss will further irk the fans – some of whom are starting to call for his head following back-to-back defeats.

Michael Owen sees both teams playing out a 1-1 draw given their similar qualities, and he is confident that training at Finch Farm in the past week would have been very hectic.

He told BetVictor: “Wolves got their first draw of the season last week and must have been gutted to have not got the win. I think Wolves are one of the league’s most underrated sides though and can see them climbing up towards the top eight.

“Knowing him as I do, Rafa Benitez must have been furious after the defeat to Watford. To concede four in the space of 12 minutes is so unlike his sides and he’ll have been working on the training ground with them all week.

“I really can’t separate these two. I think come the end of the season, there won’t be many points between them. I’m going for a draw.”

Tough call

Wolves are undefeated in their last four league games, winning thrice, and they will fancy their chances of getting a win on Monday night.

On the other hand, the Blues have won just one of their last five fixtures, losing thrice, and the honeymoon appears over for Benitez.

Challenging a Wolves team in fine and impressive form will be a daunting task, but Everton have played some eye-catching football under the Spaniard and are very much capable of leaving with all three points.

Unfortunately, injuries have dealt a massive blow on their chances of maintaining momentum, but they have Richarlison back and that could prove to be a massive boost.

Being without Yerry Mina, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the moment spells trouble, though.

Picking up a point would not be too bad for Everton considering the quality of the opposition, but their fans could demand more given the tough run of fixtures on the cards in the weeks leading to Christmas.
