Ally McCoist baffled by criticism of Everton stopper Jordan Pickford
Ally McCoist has been left baffled by the criticism of Everton keeper Jordan Pickford on the international stage for England.
Arsenal’s Arron Ramsdale once again made the headlines over the weekend, and most have called for him to take the number one spot for the Three Lions.
McCoist was stunned, insisting that Pickford has never left his country down and believes there are some who are “desperate” for that to happen.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist simply couldn’t believe that people were calling for Pickford to be dropped yet again.
“I have to tell you, it kind of baffles me sometimes,” he said.
“I know he’s made one or two errors, not recently, at club level but Pickford has never, ever let England down.
“There seems to be, tell me if I’m wrong, a little bit unfair – some people out there are desperate to see him replaced with someone else.”
Short memory.
The same fans calling for Pickford to be dropped will be the same group who were consistently chanting his name during the EUROs over the summer.
England wouldn’t have got to final without the Toffees stopper, and the penalty shootout would have been much shorter if he didn’t pull off some brilliant saves.
Now, all of a sudden, that is old news and too many are simply calling for him to be dropped and forgotten about.
Ramsdale has been superb this season, we aren’t disagreeing with that, but there is no chance that he will jump ahead of those ahead of him.
Nick Pope and Sam Johnstone have been called up more consistently in recent months, and Ramsdale will need to consistently beat them to call-ups first, never mind instantly starting.
McCoist is spot on here, and Pickford just needs to continue doing what has got him to this position.
