Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor can see potential Rafa Benitez return to Newcastle United

Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor can foresee a scenario where Everton sack Rafa Benitez and he returns to Newcastle United.

The Spaniard was in charge of the Magpies between 2016-19 but regularly clashed with then-owner Mike Ashley before he ended up in China with Dalian Professional.

Newcastle have recently been taken over by a Saudi-led investment group, and that has led to suggestions that the 61-year-old Blues boss may return to the North-East.

Laura Woods asked on talkSPORT [02/11/21]: “Could you see a situation where Everton let Rafa go because it’s not working and he ends up back at Newcastle?”

“100%,” ex-Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor replied. “I could see that, yeah.”

“Anything could happen, absolutely,” McCoist added.

All parties happy?

After a frosty reception, to say the least, upon his arrival at Goodison Park earlier this summer, Benitez enjoyed a terrific start at Everton that saw them go unbeaten in their first five games of the season.

However, amidst a series of injuries to their biggest stars, Everton’s form has nosedived.

They have now won just once in their last seven games and the pressure has started to crank up on Benitez ahead of a gruelling November and December fixture list.

Whether it is deserved or not, the reality is that there will be serious questions asked of Benitez if they do not start to pick up some positive results soon.

If that doesn’t happen, it may well be Everton supporters, as well as those on Tyneside, that are calling for him to return to his former side.
