Phil Kirkbride fuming at what Everton players did on Monday night

Phil Kirkbride has criticised the reaction of many Everton players after Wolves’ second goal on Monday.

In his latest piece for the Liverpool Echo, Kirkbride shreds the Toffees players for staring blankly and not showing any passion after conceding.

The only player who made any movement was Andros Townsend, who went over to the bench to receive some instructions from Rafael Benitez, but apart from that, there was nothing.

He said: “As Everton’s players waited for the game to be started, they stood there, facing forward, blankly, in silence, stunned and looking lost.

“The only movement came from Andros Townsend, as he went over the touchline to receive instructions from Benitez about a tactical reshuffle.

“Otherwise, there was no sign of life. Little anger, nobody taking charge of a situation that was spiralling out of control.”

Worrying signs for the Toffees.

Now, in the second half, the Toffees did fight back and did pull a goal back through Alex Iwobi.

However, they still conceded two very good chances that should have ended up in the back of the net.

So, you could say that the 2-1 scoreline flattered them in the end, and Kirkbride is right about this reaction to the second goal.

It was men against boys in the first half, and the Old Gold should probably have scored more.

So, the fact that there was no reaction or anger shown is very concerning, and you can’t imagine Rafael Benitez will be happy with that.

Now, the Toffees are struggling with injuries and have now lost three league games in a row, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have to show fight and determination to win.

It really is time for the leaders in the squad to emerge and help Everton get their season back on track.

In other Everton news, one Toffees player is set to be assessed before the club face Tottenham.
