Rafael Benitez raves about Everton talent Anthony Gordon
Everton will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League clash on Sunday at Goodison Park.
The Toffees are without a win in the last four games, and are heading into this match on the back of three consecutive defeats.
They are up against Spurs who will have a new manager in the dugout – Antonio Conte – for this game.
Ahead of the match, Benitez has showered heaps of praise on Everton young talent Anthony Gordon.
The 20-year-old has made two Premier League starts this season, and another five appearances have come from the bench.
The Spaniard has suggested that he is “growing and getting better” with every game, and that he will be an important player for this club.
“I’m really pleased for him. He’s growing and getting better. He has to keep balancing his game. He will be an important player for Everton in the future,” Benitez said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.
Gordon impressed in Everton’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United earlier this season, and it seems Benitez has seen great potential in him.
He was superb during Everton’s EFL Cup game against Queens Park Rangers, and also did well in the 1-0 defeat against West Ham.
Gordon is a natural attacking left sided midfielder and it will be interesting to see how he develops under Benitez.
The Spaniard is known for his tactical acumen and Gordon can really grow under his tutelage.
Benitez is not the type of manager who makes exaggerated claims about his players. His comments on Gordon shows he really rates him highly and has backed him to become an important player for the club in the future.
Meanwhile, Everton must win this game against Spurs. They are missing key players like Andre Gomes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina, but the Toffees must find a way to bounce back strongly in the league.
In other Everton news, Mark Lawrenson has predicted how the Toffees will get on against Tottenham on Sunday.
