Roy Keane uses Everton as example in passionate Manchester United rant

Roy Keane pointed to Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton last month as he launched into a passionate rant against his old club on Saturday.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Manchester City at Old Trafford in a meek surrender of three Premier League points.

Keane, a former Manchester United captain, was furious with the home side’s display during his post-match punditry for Sky Sports.

He said: “Phil Foden mentioned it is a tough place to come, it’s not. Ask Everton, ask Aston Villa and Liverpool. Teams have come to Old Trafford and are getting a bit of joy now.

“I know United’s away record has been fantastic over the last couple of seasons but ultimately it’s what you do at home that gives you that foundation to try and compete and go on and win trophies because United still always have the quality, even away from home. But their home form, the performance and the defending.”

Points dropped?

It’s hard to suggest Everton waltzed the game at Old Trafford last month after they came from a goal behind to net a 65th-minute equaliser through Andros Townsend.

But, on reflection, it was as good a chance as any to secure only their second Old Trafford victory since 1992.

The Blues’ shocking record at Manchester United has seen them win just once there in the last 29 years, a 1-0 success in 2013.

Could Rafa Benitez’s side have pushed on to claim all three points last month?

Given the chance presented to Tom Davies late on, when he opted to square the ball to an offside Yerry Mina, one could argue that they really should have done.

That was an Everton side with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison missing, but one of their best players this term, Abdoulaye Doucoure, was pulling strings in midfield.

After his recent absence and subsequent results, that may well be a vital two points dropped as Manchester United’s awful tactics continue to get exposed.
