Everton Women Expert delighted with Izzy Christiansen after Jean-Luc Vasseur captain call

We’re delighted to welcome Peter MacFarlane, member of the Everton Women Official Supporters Club, as our exclusive Everton Women expert.

Izzy Christiansen looks to have been given a new lease of life at Everton Women after being named as captain against Leicester City and Brighton.

Lucy Graham was named as captain by Willie Kirk in 2019 [Everton official website] but the Scotland international is yet to make a start for the Blues this season amid injury issues.

In her absence, Danielle Turner was generally been entrusted as skipper by Kirk, but after he was sacked last month, it looks like the armband has changed hands again.

Kirk’s successor, Jean-Luc Vasseur, has named Christiansen as his captain for his first two games in charge, a 3-1 away win at Leicester in the League Cup and a 1-0 defeat in the league to Brighton on Saturday [06/11/21].

Everton Women’s expert Peter MacFarlane was impressed by the 30-year-old’s reaction to being handed the captaincy, albeit on a temporary basis as Graham continues her recovery, coming on as a substitute in their last three games.

“Izzy certainly put in a captain’s performance, scoring with an absolute rocket of a left-foot strike in the first half, then capping her performance off with an assist for our third goal to put the game to bed,” MacFarlane told Goodison News after the win at Leicester.

“Izzy has worked with Jean-Luc before during her time at Lyon, so they know each other well. Coming off the back of last season where she was named Player of the Season, Izzy had had a slight dip in form so seeing her named captain, and the boost it gave her, bodes well for the rest of the season.

“Izzy is one of the best players in her position in this league and it’s vital we have her firing on all cylinders, so making her captain could be a masterstroke from the new boss.”
