Everton Fan Mailbag: How much will the club have to spend
Every week we’ll be asking Everton fans on our Twitter account for questions that will be answered by Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham. You can join in by following the Goodison News Twitter account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
Everton ended the summer transfer window as the Premier League’s lowest spenders and acquired four players.
Now two have been superb, and the other two are struggling, but given the Toffees’ finances, you would think it is going to be a struggle for Rafael Benitez to improve his squad.
He did well to get four players for minimal money in the summer, but the January transfer window is known as a much harder window to operate in.

With that in mind, we asked for your burning questions about all things Everton-related for Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one Toffees fan wanted to know how much his club would have to spend in January.

Thanks for the question, Stephen. I am sure that many Evertonians are thinking the same thing!
The truth is we don’t know exact figures, but we can make some predictions based on what we already know [Liverpool Echo].
So, Everton are so close to going over their FFP limit thanks to years and years of poor recruitment from various managers and officials based at Goodison Park.
The current squad is full of players brought in by various managers who never achieved their vision.
So, there does need to be a rebuild at some point, and you would hope that Benitez can be the man to sort it.
However, I can’t see this happening in January or possibly even next summer.
The Toffees are losing £2.5million per week, and they have a new stadium to build [Price of Football podcast].
Money is so tight, and it can’t be spent on the playing squad.
Therefore, taking all that into account, I would say that the Toffees have a minimal amount to spend in January unless they can raise some money through players sales.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting a loan move for a Premier League outcast.
