Jean-Philippe Gbamin facing uncertain Everton future

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is facing an uncertain future at Everton, according to Liverpool Echo journalist David Prentice.

While speaking on the Royal Blue podcast, Prentice has suggested that Gbamin could possibly be sold by Rafael Benitez.

Since his £25million transfer from Mainz in August 2019, Gbamin has been really unfortunate with his injuries.

Benitez is getting increasingly frustrated with him. The Spaniard cannot rely on him in terms of fitness and he could be sold in the near future.

However, Prentice has claimed that what has really frustrated everyone is that he has been “erratic’ in training. There are days when he has had good days and then he has had bad days as well. There is a serious lack of consistency.

“We’ve heard that his performances on the training pitch at Finch Farm have been erratic,” said Prentice on the Royal Blue podcast

“He’s had good days training but then he’s had two or three really bad days training so you don’t get any level of consistency.

“Is that a result of his time out? Possibly? But when he’s been given opportunities to showcase it in football matches, he’s not produced.”

Should Everton sell him?

The 26-year-old has played just 192 minutes of Premier League football since joining in 2019. He made his first start for over two years in the 2-1 defeat against Wolves.

He was very poor during the match and was taken off at half-time. Against Tottenham Hotspur, Benitez used Mason Holgate to play out of position as Allan’s replacement but didn’t trust Gbamin to do the job.

Now that he has returned to full fitness, there’s very little evidence to prove that he can do a fantastic job for the club.

Most importantly, Benitez will judge a player based on what he sees on training regularly. He has done nothing on the training pitch that warrants him regular game time.

If he doesn’t improve in the coming weeks, his days at the club could be numbered.
