View: Everton must prepare emotional return for Ross Barkley in January

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Ross Barkley during the January transfer window, and Rafa Benitez should bring him at Goodison Park.

According to reports from TEAMtalk, the Toffees are interested in a January loan deal for the Chelsea midfielder.

The report claims that the 27-year-old is out of favour under manager Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, and he could leave the club in January to boost his hopes of playing for the Three Lions at the World Cup next year.

With less than 18 months left on his present deal, Everton can snap him up at a bargain price. The deal makes a lot of sense.

Emotional attachment

Barkley was a hero at Everton, but the Goodison faithful never forgave him for the manner in which he sealed a move to Stamford Bridge.

Under Benitez, he can revive his career at a club where it all began for him. There’s an emotional element attached to the move, and it could bring out the best from him.

Typical Benitez signing

The club need an attacking midfielder and Barkley fits the bill. He is experienced. He knows the club. He would join on loan – it’s a risk-free business.

At Liverpool, Rafa signed Robbie Fowler, and he did a fantastic job. He can get the best out of Barkley who still has got the talent and motivation to succeed at the highest level.

Rejuvenated

There’s one big concern, though. Barkley’s injury. At Aston Villa, he made a great start, but then injuries prevented him from reaching the levels he had set for himself.

Under Tuchel, he has made a fine comeback, managing eight appearances this season. He has looked solid. If he can stay fit, he can make a lot of difference to the current Everton side.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be hurt by new Premier League plans.
