Everton keen on signing Ivan Perisic after he turned down Inter Milan extension

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Ivan Perisic as he has recently turned down a contract offered to him by Inter Milan.

According to L’Interista, the Toffees are one of the teams to have tested the ground for the 32-year-old Croatia international.

The attacker is understood to have informed the Serie A giants about his intention to leave and will not sign an extension to his current contract which runs out at the end of the season.

The Toffees must target players in their peak or nearing their peak, not ones on the wrong side of 30.

What Perisic will offer is only name recognition and the experience of playing in the biggest domestic and international games.

While such personalities are needed inside the dressing room, he’s unlikely to come on low wages.

Everton are already in a financial lurch themselves, so it makes little sense to overpay for someone not here for the long term.

Inter are cash-strapped so they could look to offer him for a bargain in January.

Whether or not he falls into the Toffees’ price range remains to be seen, but we do not think that he would be the right fit for Rafa Benitez’s system.

The Spaniard would prefer hard-working players, ideally below the age of 25, who he can mould to play the way he fancies.
