Paul Brown: Everton have at least £30million to spend in January

Everton plan to spend around £30million to £35million during the January transfer window, according to journalist Daily Express journalist Paul Brown.

He told Give Me Sport that the Goodison Park outfit should have a decent budget for the next market after spending very little during the last one.

The Toffees were hamstrung by Financial Fair Play restrictions in the summer, ending up spending just £1.7million, with Rafa Benitez largely relying on free signings.

Brown told GMS: “There should be £30million or £35million to spend in this window, if not more.”

For a team that have struggled recently this term despite their impressive start to the campaign, bringing in some quality additions in January is necessary, and Benitez has something to spend going by Brown’s claim.

£35million is not a lot nowadays, but Demarai Gray cost just £1.7million, and if Everton know where to look, they could land two or three quality players with what they have in January.

They have had to play their last nine games without their main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while Abdoulaye Doucoure and Yerry Mina have missed a handful of games too, dealing a blow on their defensive structure.

Gray was also withdrawn in the early stages during Sunday’s 3-0 loss against Manchester City, and there is no denying that Everton have to bring in replacements during the winter transfer window.

Benitez will be hoping to strengthen at the back, in midfield and attack, and should he get lucky and lay hands on some hidden gems, a top-seven finish could still be possible if the players he signs hit the ground running at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
