Demarai Gray could be back from injury sooner than expected
There is a belief at Finch Farm that Everton forward Demarai Gray could be back “sooner than expected”, according to Liverpool Echo.
The 25-year-old lasted just 17 minutes in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday before an abductor injury forced him off, but the Toffees could soon be handed a boost as they are growing increasingly hopeful over a possible quick return.
While Gray remains a major doubt for the Brentford game, there has been no firm indication from those around the training ground that he has been completely ruled out of the clash.
Everton’s game plan against Man City became useless the moment the summer signing left the pitch, with the squad lacking the counter-attacking threat the speedster brings to the table.
The loss was not a surprise, but Rafa Benitez would have fancied his side’s chances of hurting the hosts had Gray played.
An abductor injury often takes time to heal, but it appears the attacker could be available this month or in December as opposed to next year.
With three goals and two assists to his name in 12 Premier League games so far, Gray has been key to Benitez’s attacking plans.
Gray’s pace and skills are always causing the opponents problems when he is not scoring or assisting, and Everton cannot afford to be without him for long.
They are already still feeling the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while Richarlison is ruled out of the Brentford game due to suspension.
