Perry Groves slams the Everton squad live on air
Perry Groves has torn the Everton squad to shreds, saying that Rafa Benitez’s men are “bang average” after they lost to Brentford on Sunday.
Speaking on talkSPORT after the Toffees lost 1-0 in the Premier League at the Brentford Community Stadium, the former footballer turned pundit slammed the Toffees.
He doesn’t believe that just because a few players are injured, the drop off in quality should be as great as it is when it comes to the Toffees, which appeared to be a dig at the decision-makers.
He said: “He [Benitez] ain’t going to get a tune out of these players.
This is a bang average set of Everton players.
“A club the stature of Everton shouldn’t be this mediocre when you’ve got three players injured.
“Your squad depth should be a lot stronger.
“They’re looking to get in the top six, aren’t they?
“But if you look at their players, which players would a top-six team take from Everton?”
A brutal but probably fair assessment of Everton.
The Toffees launched wave after wave of attacks in west London but never really troubled the Bess’ goalkeeper that much and Salomon Rondon went another game without a goal.
Abdoulaye Doucoure was back in action, but he didn’t make too much of a difference, and Demarai Gray came off the bench.
Yes, they were without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, but apart from that, Benitez had the strongest squad he has had in a while to work with.

However, they just couldn’t create enough, and after listening to Groves’ rant, you would have to say that he has had a dig at the likes of Marcel Brands here because they have spent so much money, and this is what they have been left with.
It really isn’t good enough, and the people above Benitez have a lot of questions to answer because they have left him horribly exposed.
In other Everton news, Jamie Carragher has had his say on Doucoure’s return to the side.
