Injury news: Everton still without three first team players for Liverpool clash

Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Everton will still be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina and Tom Davies for Wednesday’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

Calvert-Lewin has been missing since the end of August with a quadriceps injury and the Toffees have struggled to replace him upfront.

Meanwhile, centre-back Mina has been absent for the last five games with a hamstring injury and midfielder Davies is set to be out for a number of weeks after suffering a knee injury earlier this month.

Speaking to the media ahead of the derby, Benitez was asked about player availability for the game.

“The group of players is the same,” he replied.

“Dominic [Calvert-Lewin], Yerry Mina and [Tom] Davies are not available but at least we have players training regularly and that is a great advantage for the future. They will need some time to have match fitness but at least they are training.”

Key absences

Calvert-Lewin’s absence was expected but it is hoped that it is not too long before the England international is able to return.

Richarlison is available again after being suspended against Brentford, so that is at least one attacking boost for the Toffees following another uninspiring performance from Salomon Rondon in west London.

There is certainly some fan frustration over Yerry Mina, who has supposedly been close to match fitness for a while and was even tipped to make a potential return against the Bees last weekend [Liverpool Echo].

Yet in the Colombian’s continued absence, Benitez has little option but to stick with the centre-back pairing of Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey.

Davies is not such a massive miss having largely been a bit-part player this season, but Abdoulaye Doucoure should hopefully be more up to speed after returning from the sidelines against Brentford.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could look to sell one of their star players to raise transfer funds.
