Jarrad Branthwaite set to sign new Everton four-year deal this weekend

Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to agree a new four-year deal this weekend as Everton look to tie up the young centre back, according to Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old is struggling to play regularly this term, but he has impressed Rafa Benitez and his staff, and the club are keen to hand him an extension.

The Toffees want to loan him out again for more experience in January, and they have a number of clubs showing interest in Branthwaite, with some of them from the Championship.

While some Everton fans have been calling on Benitez to utilise him in his first team more often, the Spaniard is reluctant to throw him into action when his side are struggling.

One for the future

The teenager was on the bench for Wednesday’s Merseyside derby, but has only featured once for the senior side this term – against Huddersfield Town in August.

While he is not likely to become a first-team regular anytime soon, the club clearly see his huge potential and are ready to hold on to him for the long-term.

Branthwaite’s loan spell at Blackburn Rovers did not go as planned last term after injuries curtailed his progress, and he will be hoping that changes heading into the second half of the campaign.

He featured for the under-23s in their 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League 2 last Monday (22 November) to bolster his fitness, and with loads of games to play this month, he could be seeing action before leaving Goodison Park temporarily in January.

The January 2020 £900,000 signing from Carlisle United has a bright future, and he could establish himself as a Premier League star going forward.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
