Everton lead chase to sign Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard

Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard, who is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

According to the Sunday Mirror (05/12/2021, pg 70), the Toffees, along with West Ham are frontrunners to bring the former Chelsea forward back to England.

The Belgium international has struggled to adapt in the Spanish capital since leaving London and is open to coming back to the English top flight.

Real are desperate to get him off their wage bill and would ideally like him gone in January.

Worth it?

Hazard is a household name who would get the fans excited at the mere prospect of him being on the books at Everton.

Despite a quiet last few years, he’s done enough for Chelsea to etch his name as one of the best Premier League players of the last decade.

He single-handedly won a number of games and trophies for the Blues and has the experience of facing players quicker and more physical than him.

The 30-year-old is greatly admired at Stamford Bridge and the appreciation the club have for him can be seen in the glowing profile they wrote for him after he left.

Everton

In this piece on their official website, they’ve labelled him “magnificent” for his contributions there.

However, the Belgian is no longer at the peak of his powers and a move to England would see him expect a salary that may be beyond Everton’s reach.

If we were Marcel Brands, we would be looking at cheaper and younger alternatives.
