Chris Sutton reacts to Townsend’s assist for Richarlison’s disallowed goal v Arsenal
Everton saw Richarlison’s goal disallowed in the first-half in their 2-1 win against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Monday night.
The Brazilian thought he had put the hosts ahead 44 minutes into today’s (6 December) game, and while VAR struck it off, Chris Sutton was pleased with the quality of Andros Townsend’s cross while on commentary duties on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Toffees attacker has been a quality addition to the team’s frontline since joining on a free in the summer, and he was unlucky not to grab an assist tonight.

Sutton said (as shown on the BBC website): “The quality of the ball from Andros Townsend was absolutely terrific.
“You can say it’s a good line from Arsenal. It’s a terrific header from Richarlison but he is beyond the last man.”
Offside is offside
Richarlison could not catch a break against Arsenal today as he had another goal ruled out minutes after play restarted for being marginally offside before finally equalising.
The Toffees needed a lot of luck, and while Ben Godfrey escaped being sent off for stamping on Takehiro Tomiyasu’s face, they had two goals rightly chalked off.
Everton were close to making it seven losses in their last eight games, but the players kept putting in a lot of effort against the North Londoners before things finally went their way.

Rafa Benitez and his charges deserve all the praises for the result, and they will now hope that continues when they travel to face Crystal Palace on Sunday (12 December).
Everton needed to quickly arrest their slide, and they will fancy their chances of leaving Selhurst Park with all three points.
Not many will tip them to get a result when face Chelsea afterwards, but they will need both Richarlison and Townsend to be on top of their game for the tough clashes ahead, and both can be trusted to combine effectively well going forward.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
