Alan Shearer thrilled by Demarai Gray’s performance in 2-1 win v Arsenal

Alan Shearer has showered praise on Everton attacker Demarai Gray after his winning goal in last night’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Goodison Park.

The Toffees fought hard for all three points yesterday (6 December), with the former Leicester City winger leaving it late with a fine finish that made the Newcastle United legend include him in the Premier League’s official Team of the Week.

Gray was involved in Everton’s equaliser as Richarlison pounced to finally draw the hosts level after his effort struck the bar.

Shearer was thrilled by the forward’s electric performance, writing on the website: “A menace all night, hitting the crossbar in the build-up to Everton’s equaliser before winning the match with a spectacular strike.”

Spot on

Gray cost the Blues just £1.7million after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, and he is arguably the bargain of the transfer window right now.

The 25-year-old has now scored five goals and weighed in with two assists in 15 league appearances so far for Everton, and no player in the team has been involved in more goals.

Gray is not only about the goals, and his industry and ability to unsettle defences would have surely attracted Rafa Benitez.

Arsenal could not cope with his pace and trickery last night, and he got a deserved goal to cap off his incredible performance.

Everton finally picked up a win after losing six and drawing two of their last eight games heading into yesterday’s game, and they have Gray to thank for it.

They face Crystal Palace next before clashes against Chelsea, Leicester City, Burnley and Newcastle United ahead of 2022, and they can get something from those games if the former Birmingham City man delivers.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
